About Julie Lind...

I begged my parents for piano lessons at the age of eight. I was so thrilled when a piano was delivered to my house! I made an agreement with my mom; if I practiced piano I could get out of drying the supper dishes.

What a deal! What my parents didn’t realize was that I had a special gift. I discovered I could create music that sounded like I was practicing. While my poor sister was stuck doing the dishes, I was in my glory playing my new musical creations.

Those beginning piano lessons resulted in a lifetime of sharing my love of the piano with others.

A LIFETIME OF MUSIC

My first piano job came at age 15, when I played for chapel services at a senior living facility. That same year I was a finalist in the Minnesota Music Teachers Association State Piano Competition, and performed in their Honors Concert at Northrop Auditorium. I was awarded a music scholarship to Concordia College, in Moorhead, Minnesota, where I earned my Bachelor of Arts degree.

COMPOSING AND TEACHING

When I was asked to be the substitute pianist at my church, I discovered my love of hymn arranging. I began teaching piano lessons in 1993 and have now taught for more than 30 years.

My duet, "Hop, Skip and Jump", was chosen as the winner in the MMTA teacher's composition competition. The piece was performed at the State Honors Concert at Northrop Auditorium.

PUBLISHING MUSIC

In 2011, I created the PianoSongDownload.com website to share my compositions with the world. I was thrilled when self-publishing became an option.

My arrangement of, “A Thousand Years”, was the winner of Sheet Music Plus’ contest for being the top-selling arrangement of self-published popular music on their site. Today, my music is available through Amazon, Sheet Music Plus, Sheet Music Direct, and my own store.

YOUTUBE

I started the PianoSongDownload YouTube channel in 2011, sharing easy piano tutorials alongside the free sheet music on my website.

During the pandemic, my channel took off and grew to an audience I never could have imagined. Today, PianoSongDownload has more than 217,000 subscribers and 97 million views! I love seeing my students' reactions when they notice my YouTube Silver Award on the wall. I also share my original compositions on my @julielind YouTube channel.
